Following weeks of suspense, plots and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling end
Spoiler alert - This piece reveals details from The Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
However on the final evening, the final winner of the first celebrity edition emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, only five remained: Traitors and faithfuls facing off for the prize.
Before long, the competition tightened to just three: the remaining contestants.
In the end, comedian Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a surprising outcome that broke the internet and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms immediately exploded with this development. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," wrote one user.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," stated a different person, while a third described it as "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from comic relief to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers surprised, according to industry observers.
"The thought of him, of all people, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt about as likely as him maintaining composure through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, the other contestants explained why no one had truly doubted him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how does one vote for someone who is so charming?" questioned a different contestant.
Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his experience with the program.
"I want to do it again... I doubt it would work a second time!"
Thursday evening's installment was extended to over an hour on the network. There was a different start than typical episodes, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and atypical for the show music, as we recapped key scenes from every remaining player's time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I started the competition as something of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed close allies under the bus, I've murdered national treasures openly. Apparently I'm more deceptive and traitor than I thought."
Meanwhile, a different player noted that being in the final was "significantly more pressure than competing with a national team", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
In the beginning in the episode, several players appeared to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the castle, replacing the previously eliminated style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal looking like a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
However, he got out-jacketted by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Next up was the competition, with the remaining contestants getting on board a locomotive called - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge involved ripping up images of former contestants. Spare a thought for one participant who was hit in the head THREE times by the lid of a substantial container.
Before long, it was time for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers did a pinky promise beforehand, vowing to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I won't betray him," stated one, while their partner just giggled.
And one adhered to his promise. But, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The last deceiver looked like to be experiencing significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Social media and viewers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.
"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," posted a different viewer.
However, there remained no time to dwell on this departure. Soon, they were at the final stage - this being what we were really all here for.
The final four gathered around the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be betrayed last minute like that," remarked the ousted contestant. Subsequently, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the eliminated contestant calls the other by a betrayer's name.
Finally, just three players remained in the game: the final trio.
One player, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the game. The same decision was made by another, and everything depended on the third, who made the identical choice - resulting in the traitor was the winner.
According to commentators, the moment where remaining contestants comforted the winner was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they said.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and here I am the champion," the winner said.
And he even made light of that infamous murder - his close ally in an early episode - by leaning toward the host in the final scene and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of celebrity gossiping, plotting and the occasional unexpected moments may seem like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually all happen. And we will miss it.
